Questions to ask about decal lamination.
There are all sorts of decals that are printed and applied on all sorts of different surfaces both indoors and outdoors. And being in the decal, sticker and label industry our customer's are always wondering about laminating their custom decals. Laminating a decal comes with a price differential, because of the cost of the lamination material, so when laminating a decal isn't necessary we'd like for our customer's to be able to save money and still receive a great product.
Sometimes people just assume that laminating a decal is necessary and don't mind spending a little more extra for peace of mind. But in reality, not all decals need lamination, and in reality who doesn't love saving a few bucks. When choosing to laminate a decal, sticker or label you'll just need to answer a few questions to determine if it's necessary and worth the extra dollars.
How long does your decal need to last?
Laminating a decal essentially places a protective barrier over the digitally printed adhesive backed decal creating an extra layer of protection. If your decal needs are for short-term use for promotional purposes like bumper stickers, then laminating your decal would be overkill. But if you need your decal to last a bit, like say if you are purchasing vinyl decals for car graphics, then throwing down the extra dollars for decal lamination is highly recommended and well spent.
What kind of environment will your decal endure?
Environment plays a big factor in decal lamination as well. Say for instance you are purchasing decals that will be placed on an indoor surface that won't receive a lot of sunlight or human interaction, no lamination is necessary, and the decals will last a good long time. But for decals that will be in direct sunlight, outdoors and endure lots of exposure to the elements, cleaners or risk of abrasion then lamination is suggested, unless your decal only needs to last a short amount of time.
And that is pretty much it when it comes to decal lamination. Before you place an online decal order, just give a thought to those two questions, and you should be able to determine if your decal requires lamination or not.
